Can I change my user ID and Password?

You can change your user ID and password by going into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company. Choose the situation below that applies to you, and follow the steps. If you have multiple companies and you want to consolidate under one user ID and password, see Article 1059.

Changing  your user ID from one email address to another:

Sign in to your QBO company at https://qbo.intuit.com

  1. Click the Gear Icon >Your Account 
  2. Go to the Personal Info and click the blue Edit Personal Info button.    
  3. Scroll down to the Your Sign in Information section. The old email address will be listed there.   
  4. Click Change.
    1. A pop-up window may open and you may be required to sign in again and then enter a Confirmation code that is sent to your current email address. For more information on this additional sign in requirement, please see Article 6814.
    2. If the pop-up window requiring a new sign in doesn't display, then click Email Confirmation Code.
  5. Check the inbox for your old email address. You will receive an email from donotreply@quickbooks.com.
    Note:  If you don't have access to the old email address, please see Article 1058.
  6. Copy the confirmation code from the email and return to the pop-up window or Sign-In Info section.
  7. Paste the confirmation code into the first field, or carefully type the code if you were unable to copy it from the email.
  8. Enter your existing password and your new email address.
  9. Click Update or the Save Changes button.

If you receive an error that the confirmation code is expired, then that particular code is no longer valid. Please see Article 5556 to fix this.

Note: Your new email address must be one that we currently do not have on file. If you see an error message at the top of the screen stating that the email address you chose is not available, you will need to pick a different email address and follow the steps again until your chosen email address is accepted.

To change your Password:

 

  1. Sign in to your QBO company at https://qbo.intuit.com
  2. Click the Gear Icon > Your Account at the top of the screen. 
  3. Go to the Personal Info section and click Edit Personal Info button.
  4. Scroll down to the Sign in Info section and click Change
    • A pop-up window may open and you may be required to sign in again and then enter a Confirmation code that is sent to your current email address. For more information on this additional sign in requirement, please see Article 6814.
  5. Enter the old password.
  6. Enter the new password into the New password field and retype it to verify the new one.
  7. Enter a password hint.  (This step may not be required). 
  8. Click the OK or Save button.
